Hollywood

Just a quick update as I am exhausted and it is 0300 in stockholm.

Arrived in LA yesterday at 1800 and straight off to a dinner meeting at the Mondrian Hotel. The most fabulous views of LA and a great dinner.

Today we have been to see CNBC, NBC and Bravo TV. Bumped into Larry King at CNN which was cool. Back at our hotel, SLS beverly Hills, absolutely glorious.

Tomorrow is a “day off” but have a huge list of antique and design shops to visit.

That is it……….I am off to bed for an hour before going to dinner at Baltazar.

Wedding was cool, attended a great party at the Grand with a perfect view of the cortege and the palace. Even if people think Royalty is old fashioned, Victoria was magnificent and undoubtedly people around the world who saw the affair on TV now know where sweden is!

Pooter gets trained

Pooter was perfect during our training session with Gun-Marie last night at Lidingö centrum. G-M is a genius with dogs and makes me feel rather foolish sometimes. P gets too excited around kids and dogs but we have found the magic potion to make him not concentrate on these things. Leverpastej!!

He is transformed into a very well behaved JR. Really quite amazing the whole process.

Busy filling out our visa waiver documents for LA, all too exciting……..very interested so see where this takes us.

Pigs and art

Everybody must go in and have a look at the link on Annika,s  comment. It is a very, very long time since I have seen anything as ugly as this piece of art, it is quite mind blowingly awful.

Quite a lugn day today, training for Pooter this evening at Lidingö Centrum which will require masses of his favourite godis and a handfull of bajspåse.

This is turning into quite an exciting week, Thursday is a photo shoot with Osram for their new fall campaign, friday will be drinks with friends, saturday is a day off and the wedding and sunday morning T & I are flying to LA for a meeting. Can not say what it is about just yet but it has something to do with ugly homes. Sadly Anna Anka, I do not think we will have time for a cocktail!

Meeting at 1000 today regarding a new terrace bar and restaurant we have been working on at Kongress hallen in Visby. The terrace has been enlarged a lot and we have designed the feel of the place. Great view overlooking Kallbadhuset and one of the best views of the sunset on the island. If you are in Gotland check it oput as I think it will be great.

Enough from here, time for work.

Our colourless home

Hope it was a good weekend for all, way too much rain thought. I looked like a disktrasa after planting in the garden.

I think Annika raises a good point about our home and why it is so colourless. One has to remember that on TV the before and after is the main point of the show so the finish has to be strong.

With my home there is infact a lot of colour. The vardagsrum is a pale lila, the study as a lila wallpaper, bedroom is a smoky choclate brown. Of then when you see colours in a photograph they do not always have much to do with the colours in reality.

But I have a lot of things at home and I wanted the things to show and colours as just the background setting.

In the kitchen we have a painting by Astrid Sylvan and I did not want the colour on the wall to compete with the picture. We took the bedroom colour and added 70% white, in another bedroom we added only 50% white.

TV design and real design are not quite the same but at least I can say I have no white walls……….or a vitrine skåp………….or pigs on motorbike ……

Friday

End of the week thank goodness and soon time for a few glasses of wine.

Last night was a great success and everyone at Sand seemed to have a good time and shopped. Spent some time talking to Paul Anthony the personal shopper who was a first class egg. I wanted to buy a jacket and asked his opinion and he told me I looked like an undertaker so I left it on the hanger.

This morning was the dentist and Eva said I had the teeth of a 20 year old………..

Tonight off for dinner with clients who have now become good friends. I think it might be cold at Lisa på Torget, but they are supposed to be Vikings and the English never feel the cold.

As usual, here is also a lite round of Q&A:

Katie
I’m very sorry but I don’t remmeber the lamp. The program was a repeat from a few years ago and I can assure you I have seen a LOT of lamps in my time.

Josefine
I don’t know the composer of the piece, sadly. Try contacting the production company. They may be able to help you.

If your kitchen is not that big colour won’t make it bigger. I would choose colours you like and that you feel comfortable with.  Alternative you can throw out the spis and fridge and see if that feels bigger.

Inge
The book is coming along slowly. The problem is finding the time to sit down and write. If you follow the blog regularly you know that we are always very busy. Running two businesses, filming, föreläsningar, travels, etc. take up a lot of time. But we are working on it - slowly but surely.

Flak mm

My god yesterday was wonderful in stockholm. So many students, loud music, people having fun.

We are next to Norra Real and the whole street was shut off and the police were there re-directing the traffic and busses. A group of beer soaked girls came and grabbed me and wanted a kiss which was very flattering if not a little blöt.

A friend of ours, Waldemar, graduated yesterday so we went to the fest which was nice as it was my first.

Now I think about it yesterday was all rather action packed as we have also designed the window display for Sand on Biblioteksgatan and that had to be installed as well in advnce of an American Express evening on thursday.

Today is quieter, Percy is going to the dog trainer this evening and I hope he does not embarass me.

the weekend

Wonderful weekend and happy to say I did not see one marathon runner……it would only have made me feel like an antique.

Spent the day on the boat looking at stockholm from the water, my god we live in the most glorious city. Beer at Mälarpaviljonen with friends in the sun for the afternoon, really could not be more relaxing.

Friday night was also glorious, drinks with the british and American ambassadors on the terrace of the british residence with a group of very interesting. The US ambassador’s sister was there who had produced the film Grey Gardens, if you have not seen it you must.

Finally on sunday gardening and sunbathing. All in all a really perfect weekend.

Back to the grind stone now.

A fun evening

Beautiful weather and a fun evening ahead. Firstly we are going to a Bindefelt event at Marion’s Diner on Kungsgatan and then off for dinner at Lisa På Torget with the marketing bosses of Elfa Lumi which will be great.

Lisa is one of the best places in stockholm for people watching during the summer (you see the most amazing sights) and the food is great.

As summer feels like it might be on the way I have started looking for a new summer kilt. Can not work out how loud the tartan should be and in what colour. I thought last years black was a little too heavy.

Perhaps a bit too purple……….

these are all traditional tartans that have been re-coloured. I think I might have to think more about this one.

Boys are off on an island tonight and tomorrow which is nice for them if the weather lasts.

Questions and answers

Thank you everyone for all your wonderful comments about the last episode and the season. It was a truly fun experience and we really enjoyed doing the program. I always try to answer some of the questions that come in, so here is this week’s go:

Alicia
I am glad you enjoyed the show. The clock we made in the last program was made of wooden sticks for holding up plants, gold spray, little round mirrors from Kreatima and masses of hot lim……..my favourite.

Inca
I agree, sometimes people just need to clean their homes. In regards to returning to past participants, it would be interesting to see if they have kept the look. Let’s see about that. The only place I have ever returned to after filming was Mother Myliss who was busy carrying everything we had put into her garage back into the kitchen. She had promised to get rid of everything

Jon
I am so glad to hear you are a regular viewer. Thank you.

Michaela and Malin
To be on the show you have to apply through TV3. Keep an eye out on their homepage, where they will announce if and when new families are needed. However everyone thinks they have ugly homes but we need really ugly. However I do not think there will be another season of the show this year……..perhaps something different.

Vivi
That is fantastic. The question is do you want to marry him? ;-)
You would be amazed to hear though that it is not the first time someone has wondered if we are able to, or could marry people. Perhaps we should get a license. Mind you if the cake was an ugly bulle we might have to call the whole thing off.

Hanna
No decisions about a future season of “Sveriges Fulaste Hem” have been made. But there are a few fun things in the works.

The Brax
Thanks for your comments. To answer your question, I can assure you that I don’t only speak English on the show. English is my language both at work and home. Though I do understand Swedish I prefer to speak my mother tongue. To put it simply I can communicate much better that way. Also I am sure I would sound like Tony Irving (who by the way is a really great guy)

Therese
Thank you. I am glad your mother and you enjoy the show and have been inspired. As we all know mother have always loved Tomas!

Anders
Thanks for the link. That certainly was a lot of furu. In fact it was so hideous I could only look for several seconds at a time.
The lamp is called Balmoral (By Rydéns) and can be purchased at Elkedjan.

That’s all for now. I hope you are all enjoying the wonderful summer weather. Best to do that while it lasts.

Weekend

Well, another week has passed and I am not sure I am any richer or wiser.

Still trying to get into the garden and with any luck sunday might be the day. It is though mothers day so with all the family coming over and giving their advice and opinions I might wait until monday.

Tonight is dinner with clients/friends which will be fun. problem at this time of year organising a bbq is that you never know what the weather will do, I am not sure whether to wear shorts or a coat.
